TRUST Snippet #1 Junior Detectives wonder if it’s all magic:
In this snippet, the three younger kids had just witnessed Robyn, Kit, and Cam jumping through the magical doorway—and they can hardly believe what they saw:
“Shirley’s right,” McCoy said. “I saw them disappear too.” He pointed to the floor. “They were there.” He got up and tiptoed over to the wall. “And then there was this door.” He placed his hands on the wall. “And then they were gone.” He lurched back from the wall as if he had been zapped by blasters, then crumpled to the floor, his hands twitching, his tongue lolling out the side of his mouth.
“Such drama!” Shirley said. She grabbed her brother and hoisted him back up to the bed.
“Well, okay, maybe not like that.” McCoy began twitching again, and Grace laughed out loud.
“Guys, this is serious. Either they’re playing tricks on us, or …” Shirley hesitated.
“Yeah,” Grace said, “or what?”
“We may be dealing with—” She lowered her voice to a faint whisper. “Magic.”
“MAGIC?” McCoy shouted. The girls pounced on him, smothering his mouth before he could say another word.
“Shhh!” Shirley had her arms and legs wrapped around him while he squirmed to get lose. Even though he was a tank, she had the upper hand. Grace made a dash for the door, leaned her ear against it, waited for a second, then nodded. All clear. Shirley let McCoy go, pointing her finger at him. Then she slowly brought it to her lips. McCoy nodded.
Grace jumped back on the bed. “We can’t use that word in this house. My mom would have a fit. She thinks the M word is evil and if she ever found us talking about it, we’d be skinned alive.”
